BEING THERE FOR THOSE AFFECTED BY ADDICTION – Troy Matthews, BA, LAC/Valley Hope Center, will discuss how you can be there for someone who is affected by addiction at 5 p.m.on Thursday, Oct. 8, in Room 132. This presentation is open to the congregation and the public, and is sponsored by Stephen Ministry.


TE DEUM ANTIQUA CONCERT 7 P.M. SUNDAY, OCT. 11- Te Deum will perform Missa pro Defunctis, a requiem mass by Spanish Renaissance composer Tomas Luis de Victoria at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, at St. Paul’s Episcopal. Church at 40th and Main in Kansas City, Mo. Matthew Shepard, Te Deum Antiqua founder and artistic director, will conduct the 13-voice ensemble. The presentation will be sung in Spanish Latin pronunciation, and will include chants from the Liber Usualis, a book of Gregorian chants compiled by French monks, commonly used in Victoria’s time. SHOE-IN -During the month of October, the Environmental Action Committee is partnering with Shawnee Community Services to hold its third Shoe-In. Bring your gently used footwear to church, and place them in the barrels that will be located inside the south entrance of the church and near the north ramp door on the ground floor. All sizes and types are needed. Shawnee Community Services will be re-distributing these shoes free to those in need in the Kansas City area. Call Bob Siemens at 913-268-5107 for more information.


ELECTRONICS RECYCLING EVENT AT VILLAGE CHURCH OCT. 10 -The Environmental Action Committee of Village Church is partnering with the Sustainable Sanctuary Coalition (SSC) to host a Recycling/Reuse Event from 9 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Oct.10, in the south parking lot. There is a suggested $20 tax deductible donation per car to support SSC and its mission to foster earth care in congregations. You may drop-off old computers, components, printers, copiers, cell phones and A/V equipment. Small appliances in good working condition will also be accepted. No TVs will be accepted. TAIZÉ WORSHIP SERVICE SUNDAY, OCT. 11 - If you are looking for a quiet, contemplative worship experience, please join us for our Taizé worship service at 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, in the Chapel. The service includes scripture, silence, some songs and sharing communion. 


FLU SHOTS will be given from 5-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, in Room 230 and from 9-11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, in Room 233. Most insurance is accepted.


BLOOD DRIVE - Village will host a blood drive on Tuesday, Oct. 20, from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. in Rooms 132 and 133. LAMP DEDICATION NOV. 1 - Linwood Area Ministry Place (LAMP) will be celebrating a new life as a campus of community services in a dedication service at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1. The service will be held in the former Linwood Presbyterian Church sanctuary space which is now a Common Space for LAMP tenants. Tours of the renovated space and the adjacent Harold Thomas Center, where Front Porch Alliance has offices, will be offered at 1:30 and 4 p.m. Parking is available from Woodland, just off Linwood Boulevard next to the spired LAMP buildings.
