TIDINGS OF JOY DEC. 21 - Join us for the 14th Annual "Tidings of Joy" at 3 and 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21 in the Village Sanctuary. “Tidings of Joy, A Celebration of the Season’s Most Beautiful Music,” is presented by the Village Choir, the Village Orchestra and Village Voices Youth Choir. Admission is free.
This year’s concert will include a thoughtful reflection on the “Christmas Eve Truce” of 1914, and the experience of Christmas in war time. Carols, arranged by the British composer (and soldier himself) Ralph Vaughan Williams, for soldiers to sing during World War I will be featured, performed by our own ensemble of young men.
A retiring offering will benefit Cross-Lines Community Outreach.
CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICES - We will have family worship at 5 p.m., tradtional candlelight services at 7 and 9 p.m. and tradtional candlelight communion service at 11 p.m. in the Village Sanctuary.
CHRISTMAS LIGHTS RECYCLING - Now through Jan. 11, please bring your old or broken Christmas lights to church and place them in the barrels that will be located inside the South Entrance. The Environmental Action Committee of Village Church is partnering with Southeast Enterprises to recycle Christmas lights. In addition to keeping lights out of the landfill, this recycling project has the benefit of providing challenging work for over 170 employees with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Theyremove the light receptacles from the wire and then separate and recycle each component. Call Gary at 913-362-8596 if you have questions.
SING IN THE NEW YEAR - We begin a new season of singing in Village Church Music Ministry on Jan. 7 & 8. More Love Chorale, a choir that sings in worship only once a month, rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The Village Choir, Chamber Choir, and Alegría (a choir for young adults) all meet on Thursday evenings beginning at 7 p.m. There are no auditions required to participate in these ensembles – and new singers are always warmly welcomed. If you have questions or would like more information, contact Mark Ball, Elisa Bickers, or Matthew Shepard. They will be happy to help you find your place for singing in the new year!
